Why can’t I open links in my email Windows 10?

27.Oct.2021

I have a problem with opening hyperlinks in an email on my Windows 10 laptop. If I am reading the email in Outlook, I cannot click on any of the links.

I get no response at all when I try to open them.

I know that this is not only happening with me because people who I send emails (with embedded hyperlinks) to are getting back saying that they cannot open them either.

We did some research online and found out that it had something to do with Google Chrome or Windows 10 mail app causing this issue, but we don’t really know for sure exactly what the problem is. Any ideas?

Your Windows 10 mail app is the default mail client and it does not support opening hyperlinks embedded in your email. You can change the default mail client to a different one such as Outlook Express or even Google Chrome but you will need administrator privileges. Here’s how:

·          Open Windows 10 Control Panel and click on Default apps under System section.

·          Under Set defaults by, look for Mail & Calendar and click on it. (Note: If it doesn’t show up, make sure you scroll down to find it.) Change the drop-down setting from Windows 10 mail to Microsoft Outlook or any other supported third-party email client like Gmail for example.

·          Restart your computer after changing the default mail client and then try opening a hyperlink again in your email.

Why do I not open links in my Windows 10 Mail?

There are several factors that can contribute to this issue such as the fact that the link may be broken, you might have issues with your computer hardware or software configuration, etc. The best way to resolve this problem is as follows:

·          Check if the hyperlink works by typing it into a separate web browser window. If it doesn’t work there either, chances are high that something is broken about the hyperlink itself. In this case, contact the person who sent you the message and ask him/her to send another message with a working hyperlink or give you a different connection to the internet (e.g.: a link on his website or another email address).

·          If you can open the hyperlink in your web browser, but not in Outlook Windows 10 app, then it is possible that your computer hardware and/or software does not meet the requirements for opening said link. Verify if this is so by trying to use a different mail client such as Gmail, etc.

·          Reset Windows 10 Mail app: Open File Explorer and click on This PC . Look for C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages and delete everything under AppData inside of it. Then restart your system afterward.
